No matter where you stand on the controversy about the link between vaccines and Autism, I think we can all agree that our first celebrity Motivational Mom can be an inspiration to us all. While many of us remember Jenny McCarthy as the belching, farting , blond bombshell on Singled Out, her true fame has really come for her outspokenness on the topic of Autism. When her son was diagnosed with Autism, McCarthy stopped everything to care for him and help him deal with his symptoms. While she has sometimes been ridiculed for her lack of scientific background she has continued to fight for her child and fight of the naysayers, because as a mother, that is what she felt she needed to do. She has used her celebrity to get the word out and has used her money and influence to learn and teach about autism and autism activism.

As mothers, while we can’t always take matters in to our own hands when it comes to medical intervention, it just would be wise or safe, we ARE our children’s advocates and at the core of our beings we know that what is right for our children and will always do what we feel will make them thrive. For her dedication to her child, her cause, her charitable work and foundation, and her use of her celebrity for the greater good, Jenny McCarthy is today’s Motivational Mom.

This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in its place is something that you have left behind...let it be something good.

Today marks the first of what I hope will be many features of motivational and inspirational moms. There are so many of you out there with incredible stories, of how you do it all, and how you get through each day with the toughest job on earth, caring for children. Whether you are an expecting mom, a working mom, a SAH mom, a grandmom and everything in between, this blog is for you. I want to share your stories and hopefully spread some inspiration, encouragement, and hopefully some laughter to all the moms out there…because god knows there are days when we ALL could use a little inspiration.

With that being said, I am so pleased to introduce you to our first MOM, Heather Spohr. I came across Heather, actually yesterday, when I was spending my day procrastinating and following the buzz around the Blogher convention on Twitter (bosses please don’t be reading this blog today). She has an incredible story, one that I have been reading for the past 24 hours, and one that inspired me to start writing this blog TODAY, after weeks of putting it off (wow, maybe procrastinating is more of a regular occurrence than I thought). Ok, enough about me, Heather who is a popular blogger and web personality was at the Blogher convention to speak about the unthinkable, the unexpected loss of her child Maddie. After a difficult pregnancy, Heather and her husband Mike welcomed a beautiful baby girl, who was their life. Heather chronicled every special, funny and memorable moment with Maddie on her blog, and gave us a glimpse in to her life as a mom. After, Maddie’s passing, when most of us would shut the world out, Heather has let the world in, and continues to shares her life, her pain, her process of grief, her commitment to supporting parents and babies in the NICU, and most importantly continues to share Maddie with us. Heather does this all with all with grace, candor and even humor. Heather’s courage is what makes her our pick for our first Motivational Mom profile. I encourage all of you to read her blog and see perseverance personified.
